Farnborough College of Technology has been preparing students for admission to University for over 50 years. It is also one of a small number of Colleges nationally which has gained the coveted ‘Accredited Status’ allowing the College to award University of Surrey degrees to its Higher Education students.
The Degree Academy is a pathway to progress on to Higher Education and will prepare you for University study
Membership to the Degree Academy is open to all Advanced Level Students working towards a minimum of 5 GCSEs A-C and who are determined to succeed. It offers a widely praised level of support to those who wish to progress to Britain’s top rated Universities and provides a head start to those who wish to study for a degree closer to home – right here at Farnborough College of Technology.
Universities and Employers seek a range of skills such as flexibility, teamwork and communication abilities. As a member of the Academy you will have the opportunity to develop qualities such as leadership, time management, problem solving, flexibility and interpersonal skills through additional programmes and activities.
You will receive expert guidance from experienced Higher Education tutors. There will be specialised advice available to guide you through the complexities of University admissions, interviews and financial advice preparing you for your responsibilities at University.
Joining the Degree Academy will stretch and challenge your abilities. Extra modules will enable you to be well prepared for the style and approach of most degree courses.
As soon as you are accepted onto the Degree Academy, your journey begins…
- Start your Advanced Level two year course from school
- During the second year you will study modules from a University of Surrey accredited Foundation Degree in your subject area
- You will learn time management, problem solving and communication skills
- You will have special tutorials with Higher Education tutors to prepare you for your University course
- You will shadow current Higher Education students and find out what it is like to be a degree student
- We will help you make outstanding University applications – advice on the University applications process
- We will give you practice interviews and advice on how to succeed in your University or job interview
- We will guarantee an interview for degree courses at Farnborough College of Technology
- You will visit University campuses as well as Higher Education fairs
- We will give you and your parent/guardian financial advice to prepare you for your time in Higher Education
- We will support applications to the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth
OUTCOME: GRADUATE - Foundation Degree in 4 years or a Bachelors Degree in 5 years
