Who are Apprenticeships for?
Young people mainly ages 16-24 who want to kick start their career or get a better job. You will gain skills and qualifications by training whilst working.
How does Apprenticeship work?
You get a job with an employer, start work with them and earn as you learn. They will support you in developing the skills you need to gain your qualification.
Most Apprentices spend four days each week in the workplace and attend College one day a week.
What qualifications will an Apprentice gain?
Apprenticeships lead to a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2, whilst the Advanced Appreticeships leads to an NVQ at level 3. Both include a range of Keys Skills, Technical Certificates and Employment Rights and Responsibilities.
What are NVQs?
These are work-based qualifications that are based on your ability to do the job. They are divided into units covering different aspects of the job. They show that you can do a job to national standards and have the skills employers are looking for.
NVQs are achieved through the demonstration of skills. Assesments usually take place where you work through observation and questioning.
What are Techinal Certificates?
These are vocationally related qualifications that provide the underpinning knowledge for the NVQ.
What do Key Skills cover?
Key Skills include Communication, Application of Number and Information Communication Technology. They are skills used in all industries.
Employers are looking for people who can communicate well, use numbers to do calculations and pricing and use new technology.
You will be encouraged to practice and develop your Key Skills in your day-to-day work, as well as in training sessions at College.
What other College support will I get with my Apprenticeship Programme?
Training Enterprise will provide a Placement Advisor for every Apprenticeship. Your Advisor will visit you in the workplace and support your progress against an Individual Learning Plan. Placement Advisors also work with employers on Health and Safety issues relating to the workplace.
