No Top-Up Fees here for entry 2010

The College is committed to ensuring that students can benefit from high quality courses, whilst minimizing the repayment of loans after graduation. There there will be no Top-Up fees charged for 2010/11 entry students. The fee will be £1,310 for an undergraduate course.

As a student, you will have two main costs to meet: Tuition Fees and Living Costs.

Tuition Fees

Under the new scheme for tuition fees all eligible full-time students will be able to apply for a Student Tuition Fee Loan to cover the full amount of their tuition fees.  This loan is not means tested and students only start to repay the loan once they have left their course and are earning over £15,000.  Application for this loan is through Student Finance England and once approved students tuition fees will be paid directly to the University or College.  For details of our tuition fee charges contact our Admissions department on 01252 407028.

Students on a low income will receive a grant to pay all (or part) of the tuition fee.

Students studying on a part-time basis will pay fees based on a percentage of the full-time fee. (For example, a student studying an honours degree over six years will pay around 50% of the full-time fee each year.)  Students studying on a part time basis should visit Student Finance England to find out about financial assistance.

Living Costs

The amount you need to live on, as a student will depend on your particular circumstances.  However, most of your money is likely to be spent on the following:

  • Accommodation
  • Food
  • Travel
  • Clothes
  • Study materials - books, equipment and so on
  • Social and Leisure activities

No one should be prevented from entering higher education because they cannot afford the costs.  That is why the Government makes financial help available to students.  This help comes from the following main sources:

  • Tuition Fee Loan.
  • Loans towards your living costs - Maintenance Loan
  • Grants for certain students towards living costs - Maintenance Grant
  • Access to Learning Fund - via your College or University

Loans

You are able to apply for a loan before your course starts.  You should apply to Student Finance England for a loan at the same time you apply for support towards tuition fees.  They will then confirm the amount of loan you are entitled to and will invite you to say how much of it you want.  You must then tell Student Finance England of this amount and they will pay it to you.   Around 3/4 of the maximum loan will be available to all students on eligible courses.

Additional Support

  • Students with Disabilities
  • Students with Childcare responsibilities
  • Students supporting an adult dependent
  • Students aged 60+ or claiming income support benefits

International students

Overseas students (those outside the EU and EEA), will be charged fees, which cover the total cost of their tuition and must also pay their own registration (University of Surrey) fees and examination costs.

The College publishes overseas fees guidelines each year which details the level of fees and payment arrangements for International students applying to the College, please contact the admissions office on +44 (0) 1252 407028 or email: admissions@farn-ct.ac.uk

Refunds & Withdrawals

The successful provision of courses depends upon the fees students pay.  Courses can only be started if the income for the course is sufficient to cover all the costs involved.

The College, therefore, cannot refund course fees except in the following circumstances:-

1. Your course is cancelled before it starts or is closed by the College and no suitable alternative is available.
2. You suffer a serious illness; refunds may be made on a pro-rata basis on the production of a medical certificate.  (please note examination and registration fees can only be refunded provided your registration has not been completed with the awarding body)

A refund form is available from your Department Administration or the Information Centre and must be completed and returned to your Dept Admin Office together with the original receipt, certificate of enrolment and supporting medical documentation.

If you withdraw from your course for any reason other than those stated above, any outstanding instalment payments will be collected by the College.
