Fees, Funding & Bursary Scheme

The College is committed to ensuring that students can benefit from high quality courses, whilst minimising the repayment of loans after graduation. Tuition fees for entry 2011 will be £2,500 for an undergraduate course. Tuition fees for entry 2012 have now been confirmed at £6,000 for an undergraduate course.

As a student, you will have two main costs to meet: tuition fees and living costs.

Tuition Fees

Under the new scheme for tuition fees, all eligible full-time students will be able to apply for a student tuition fee loan to cover the full amount of their tuition fees. This loan is not means tested and students only start to repay the loan once they have graduated and are earning over £15,000 per year. Application for this loan is through Student Finance England and once approved, tuition fees will be paid directly to the University or College. For details of our tuition fee charges, contact our Admissions department on 01252 407028.

Students studying on a part-time basis will pay fees based on a percentage of the full-time fee (for example, a student studying an Honours Degree over six years will pay around 50% of the full-time fee each year). Students studying on a part-time basis should visit Student Finance England to find out about financial assistance.

Higher Education Bursary Fund

• A bursary will be awarded to students in receipt of the maximum Maintenance Grant or a Special Support Grant.

• Students in receipt of partial grants will be considered for a bursary.

• Students must allow the College access to information about how much grant he/she is being awarded. This information will be collected from your Payment Advice letter.

• The bursary will be paid mid way through the Spring Term to eligible students still in attendance.

• Any eligible student with outstanding College debt will have their bursary set off against their debt.

Living Costs

The amount you need to live on as a student will depend on your particular circumstances, however, most of your money is likely to be spent on the following:

  • Accommodation
  • Food
  • Travel
  • Clothes
  • Study materials - books, equipment etc.
  • Social and leisure activities

No one should be prevented from entering Higher Education because they cannot afford the costs - that is why the Government makes financial help available to students. This help comes from the following main sources:

  • Tuition Fee Loan
  • Maintenance Loan - loan towards your living costs
  • Maintenance Grant - grant for certain students towards living costs
  • Access to Learning Fund - via your College or University

Loans

You are able to apply for a loan before your course starts (you should apply to Student Finance England for a loan at the same time you apply for support towards tuition fees). Student Finance England will confirm the amount of loan you are entitled to and will invite you to say how much of it you want - you must confirm this amount before it is paid to you. Around three quarters of the maximum loan will be available to all students on eligible courses.

The loan is repayable, but only when you graduate and are earning more than £15,000 per year. This information is current as at September 2010, however it is subject to change by the Government.

Refunds & Withdrawals

The successful provision of courses depends upon the fees students pay.  Courses can only be started if the income for the course is sufficient to cover all the costs involved.

The College therefore cannot refund course fees, except in the following circumstances:-

1. Your course is cancelled before it starts, or is closed by the College and no suitable alternative is available

2. You suffer a serious illness; refunds may be made on a pro-rata basis on the production of a medical certificate (please note examination and registration fees can only be refunded provided your registration has not been completed with the awarding body)

3. You withdraw before the start date of your course, however there will be an administration fee of £30 charged

A refund form is available from your departmental administration office or the Information Centre and must be completed and returned to your departmental administration office together with the original receipt, certificate of enrolment and supporting medical documentation.

If you withdraw from your course for any reason other than those stated above, any outstanding instalment payments will be collected by the College.
