Aldershot campus

Aldershot College Our Aldershot College opened in Holder Road in September 2005, and received its official Topping Out ceremony in December of that year.

Paul Bevan, Chief Executive of the South East Regional Assembly, placed a commemorative plaque as the final piece in the brickwork before John Barton, from property refurbishers ROK, handed over a key to the building to Martin Earwicker, Chairman of the College's Corporation Board at that time.

Aldershot College provides vital trade skills, such as plumbing, building, carpentry and electrical installation. We actively encourage applications from girls and we offer taster sessions through the College Masterclass scheme. Pupils should discuss with their school if they want to participate in one of these exciting sessions.

The College has a coffee shop on site for students, offering hot and cold snacks.

Principal Christine Slaymaker said: "Aldershot College is a lynchpin in our wide vocational programme, which, together with our strong links with industry, ensures our students receive the highest level of training for their chosen careers. The new College, almost unique in its design and concept, will be a model for others to follow."

Aldershot College operates its open days in tandem with the Farnborough campus and school leavers are encouraged to attend one of these events to view the state of the art facilities and meet the tutors.

Amy Taylor - Level 1 Carpentry
Previous School: Edgbarrow School, Crowthorne
I decided to do this course because it’s a bit   different to be a girl in this industry and I see this as an advantage when it comes to getting employment. I like being on the move so a career in this industry will be a great way for me to earn a living without having to sit in an office!

It’s a really nice environment here, it feels comfortable but you are still encouraged all the time to achieve. The workshop is huge, which is ideal for practical work. Overall there is a nice balance of theory and practical; I’m interested in making furniture and staircases but I especially like the theory side of things.

My next step would be to progress to Level 2, then eventually do the Level 3 course which would allow me to get work experience with a day release at College. The course is a big commitment but I know it will be worth all the hard work in the end.

Chris Darby- Level 2 Electrical Installation
Previous School:Multilingual school in Spain

After having lived in Spain for the past six years, I moved back to the UK to attend the College. I’ve always wanted to earn a living from a trade so when I was looking at various college websites in the area I was pleased to find this course.

The workshop and materials available here are really good and I’ve even enjoyed the practical exam, it took eight hours in total but really puts your skills to the test! The social aspect of the College is good too and all the activities we have requested have been arranged, such as 5 a side football tournaments.

My next step is to start my Apprenticeship with National Grid; this will last for three years and involve working on the overhead lines, which will hopefully lead to the opportunity of being offered full time employment.
