Gallery opens its doors to local business

Art and Photography Students at Farnborough College of Technology were able to experience a real working commission from local company QinetiQ.  The students were tasked with creating a range of art medium that expressed Land, Space, Sea and Air. A selection of the artwork was displayed at QinetiQ’s Farnborough office for the company’s annual ‘Family Day’.  It will remain on display before being auctioned, with proceeds going to charity.

Students pictured are first Year National Diploma students and they all gained valuable experience in: working for a client, producing work to a  design brief and most importantly meeting deadlines; all attributes they need to work in this field. Student Jess Van Dort pictured centre back said ‘the whole experience was amazing and I have really gained a lot of confidence in displaying my work through this scheme.’

Working with employers is very much part of the College ethos and everyone is delighted with the results. Jane Habgood of the college said: “In return for the work QinetiQ supplied canvasses, photographic paper and film, plus 3 digital cameras to the value of £1500 for the College Art students to use, which means everyone has benefited from this project.”

Sam Healy, Corporate Responsibility Manger at QinetiQ said: “The students not only captured the themes of our business but also the flora and fauna on our conservation site at Farnborough.  It’s great for our employees to see new and refreshing art from students at a local college on display in our offices.”
