Farnborough College of Technology in Top Ten in the Country

16 January 2009

Farnborough College of Technology has been named as the top performing college in two Government league tables announced this week. The college is the best performing school/college (including the independent sector) in Hampshire, for ‘Value Added’. This is the only objective measure of how good the teaching is in any institution. Many schools and colleges select students to ensure their position at the top of results league tables.

This excellent score achieved, places Farnborough College of Technology in the top ten of all FE colleges in England.

In another separate league table, the college came out on top in Hampshire, for the number of UCAS points achieved by students, per exam entry.

Taken together, these two league tables demonstrate first class teaching and excellent student results.

Chairman of the Board of Corporation, Professor Martin Earwicker, said ‘These league table results are truly excellent and demonstrate objectively for the first time something we have always known – namely that our students achieve beyond their expectations and this is down to the skills and expertise of the teaching staff and those supporting students in their learning.’

Principal of the college, Christine Davis, said ‘We are delighted to have national recognition for the excellent work we do. Our students tell us consistently how much they benefit from their time with us and indeed,  many of them progress through our Degree Academy and move on to Degree programmes with us. We have many examples of students who join us at age 16 and achieve their degree with us in five years.’

These successes follow other recent triumphs.  Last year the College was awarded the leadership of the National Skills Academy in Financial Services for the South East, and the Regional Resource Centre for Aero Engineering. In November, student Rakam Limbu, came second in the National Student of the Year competition
