Over sixty singers gathered at Farnborough College of Technology (FCOT) this week to audition for Rising Starz, an ‘x’ factor style show. The competition is open to anyone over the age of 16 and the finals of the show will go out live on Internet TV and on FM Radio. In true ‘x’ factor style auditionees sang to three judges who made comments, you are either ‘Through’ or ‘Rejected’. The audition process is being filmed to show during the live finals.
The show is the BSc Media Production Degree students’ Final Major Project, the show’s Producer Tom Blount said, ‘This is a really professional show and a great opportunity for new singers to get show reel material or even to get noticed!’,
Anyone interested in entering should have a look at the website www.risingstarz.co.uk as there will be more auditions arranged soon to ensure that the most talented get to the finals. The show will be broadcast live from the FCOT TV Studio at the end of March. FCOT have a professional TV Studio due to their close relationship with Sky Television. Over fifty former graduates of the college have gone on to work at the BSkyB Studios in Isleworth, West London.
Six of the crew are spending next week at Sky TV shadowing professionals as part of Farnborough’s Sky Scholarship, a process which leads to one of the students being awarded £3,000 and often leading to a job at Sky.
Head of Media and Creative Arts, Lawrence Magee said ‘ I am amazed at the professionalism of this group of students, they are probably the best group we have ever had, I am sure that several of them will go on to have successful careers in Television’
