Rushmoor Civic Day

Over 35 Mayors and Civic dignitaries from Hampshire and the surrounding region spent a day at Farnborough College of Technology as part of Rushmoor Civic day. The day hosted by Farnborough College of Technology saw the Mayors came together to enjoy a day at the College experiencing various activities linked with the College curriculum.  The Mayors arrived escorted by Andrew Lloyd Chief Executive Officer for Rushmoor Borough Council.  The group was then welcomed by the Principal Christine Davis before they embarked on various activities and experiences. Christine said “I am thrilled that so many visitors from other boroughs were able to attend the event, it has been a wonderful opportunity for our students and staff to share with visitors the fantastic work that our students achieve here at the College."

Tutors from the School of Applied and Health Sciences took some guests through the ‘Lets get physical’ a session on well being.  Mary Parnell Mayoress of Southampton certainly took up the rowing challenge.  Other activities such as a ‘Know it all’ quiz pitched some mayors against each other with students from the School of Media and Creative Arts filming the show and acting as compères.  The College Radio station Echo FM which is on air this month also recorded interviews with some of the visitors.

The Hair and Beauty students offered some pampering sessions and Enid Crouch the Mayoress of Fareham said how much she had enjoyed her manicure and the attentive service she had received from the students. 

The Construction department set up equipment for guests to bend copper pipes into interesting shapes.  Paul Wood Chairman and councillor for the New Forest District Council is pictured central with the College Principal observing their efforts.  The TV studio showed of their camera and studio area and Andrew Lloyd was spotted trying out one of the TV cameras.

A fantastic Lunch was served in the College Gallery restaurant the menu prepared and served by students was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  The day ended with a short music and dance show from the Performing Arts students.
