The Great Mall Run

11 June 2009

Students and staff at Farnborough College of Technology took the opportunity to stage a running competition along the Colleges longest corridor to raise money for Parity (people with multiple disabilities) and also to promote healthy living. Farnborough College of Technology has one of the longest corridors of any Educational Establishment in the UK, nearly 300m long.

The event took place on the 10th June  and teams of 10 from across the College sprinted down a 200m section of what is called the ‘Mall’ Places on the teams being represented were eagerly sought and the College Principal Mrs Christine Davis headed up the staff team. The Principal applauded by the students as she ran through the Mall completed it in a very respectable time of 39.6.

The teams representing the different Schools within the College raced against the clock one at a time in an attempt to get the fastest average time for their school.  Applied & Health Sciences won the overall team event and also recorded the fastest male sprinter Dan Jewell at 24.38. The fastest female runner was Roxanne Green, (34.23) a student from the School of Media and Creative Arts

Medals were presented to winners by the Principal who was delighted by all the support students had given fellow runners. The event was presented and filmed by students studying various Media and Music courses. The whole event was considered a resounding success and with so much interest from the students, it is hoped to become a regular fixture in the College calendar.

To date this event has rasied £700 for Parity.
