Floristry students at Farnborough College of Technology had their first taste of running a Florist shop. The 'Floristry Design Studio' opened last Thursday at the College, and has been created to provide a real working environment for its students to study in.
The opening took place with the Principal Christine Davis thanking everyone involved in launching this new state of the art curriculum area for the College which she felt fitted perfectly into the wonderful landscaped campus of the College. She went on to praise the students for their involvement in creating the flower displays for the recent Graduation Ceremonies and said "the displays were absolutely fantastic and very eye catching with graduates and their parents enjoying the skill clearly shown by the students"
The College has been extremely fortunate in securing the tutoring services of Hazel Woodham who has won 17 gold medals as part of the team South Africa and gold for St Lucia at the annual Chelsea Flower. Hazel was proud with how quickly her first group of students have bonded and really worked hard to make the opening stock for the new shop. She said "my students only started in September but the quality of the work they are producing is fantastic and they have shown true professionalism in meeting the shop opening deadline all skills which will prepare them for the working environment"
After the Principal officially opened the shop the students presented her with a bouquet of flowers after which students and staff enjoyed browsing the new facility. The Floristry Design Studio will have limited opening hours but already members of the community who use the College Restaurant and Salon are enjoying this new facility.
