About the course
This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in beauty therapy.
This course is designed to teach you the skills needed to practice beauty therapy, it includes manicure/pedicures/facial/waxing/basic make up and eye treatments.
Who is this programme for?
School leavers or 17 year olds wanting to change direction from other courses or colleges.
What will I study?
- All aspects of Beauty Therapy in our real working environment on clients
- Theory classes cover the anatomy & physiology, client care, health & safety
- Maths and English classes

Your course
How will I be taught?
- In our real working environment you will develop the practical skills on clients
- Theory classes delivering underpinning knowledge for beauty therapy
- Maths and English lessons will be delivered to achieve either GCSE or functional skills depending on grades
What modules are covered?
- Make-up application and make-up instruction
- Lash and brow treatments
- Manicure, pedicure and nail art
- Facial skin care
- Waxing techniques
- Anatomy & physiology
- Health & safety
- Salon reception duties and teamwork
- Functional skills and work skills are also an integral part of this course
- Practical skills will be developed along with individual/group work, research and case studies
- Students will be required to do work placement whilst on the course
How will I be assessed?
Assessments in all units are undertaken in college, and are a mixture of theory and practical work. Assessments vary from assignments, tasks, oral questions and written papers.
What training will be provided?
All modules are delivered in the beauty salon at college on paying clients. Additional external training courses available in term 3.
Guest speakers and presentations from the industry are regular features.
Your future
What Next?
Level 3 in Beauty Therapy or employment within the Beauty Therapy industry. Or Level 2 Hairdressing Full time or as an apprentice.
Entry Requirements
What previous qualifications and experience will I need?
From school
- Three GCSEs at grades 9-3
- To include English, maths and science GCSEs at grades 9-3
From college
- Relevant level 1 qualification (to include English and maths at level 1 or higher)
