Overview

About the course

This course is ideal for School Leavers who have completed a Level 1 course, and want to pursue a career in vehicle maintenance.

The course provides a standardised approach to the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements required to undertake the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair. It develops an understanding of the routine maintenance tasks involved in the automotive environment and forms the knowledge component (Technical Certificate) for the Apprenticeship Framework.

It consists of mandatory and optional units which have a credit value. Learners must achieve an overall minimum of 78 credits in order to gain the IMI Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

  • Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Engine Units and Components
  • Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components
  • Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components
  • Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Units and Components

How will I be assessed?

Students will build a portfolio of evidence from practical assessments and take on-line written assessments.

Functional Skills

Functional skills are practical skills in English, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Mathematics that allow individuals to work confidently, effectively and independently in life. The Programme Manager for each area will discuss the most appropriate Functional Skill for each student.

Successful students will possess the knowledge that will enable them to progress to an apprenticeship in the workplace and will have a firm foundation on which to broaden their education and training.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

This course is for students progressing from the level 1 course, or who have other relevant experience of working on cars.

From school:

  • Four GCSEs at grades 9-3 (including English and maths)

From college:

  • Relevant level 1 qualification (to include English language and maths at functional skills level 2 or higher)
