About the course

This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in a wide range of public services. It is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a route into university or higher education.

This course offers an excellent opportunity to make an informed choice about a career in the Police or Fire Service, Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Prison Service, Security Organisations or HM Customs.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is for school leavers looking to pursue a career within one of the many public sector job roles and who identify a need to gain an understanding of the factors that will affect their future careers and also those who wish to improve skills pertinent to many of the uniformed and armed services.

What will I study?

Learner will study units centred around the Public Sector and develop an in depth understanding of how Government procedures influences the job roles within the public sector. Learners will also focus upon factors related to crime and the legal and law system that exists in the UK whilst also partaking in outdoor units such as Expedition and Land Navigation skills.

How will I be taught?

All units are delivered at the Farnborough campus but some sessions will use external resources such as the Farnborough Leisure centre and surrounding local facilities (Outdoor Expedition and Land Navigation units).

Assessment based learning including two external exams, one per year.

What Next?

This programme is equivalent to three A Levels and provides either a foundation for university study or can act as a stepping stone to a range of careers, not necessarily related to the uniformed services, which require you to be educated to A Level standard.

What is the entry process?

Prospective Learners can apply online for the course. Following the application you may be interviewed and you will hear shortly from us confirming your conditional offer on the course. Towards the summer you will be invited in to a Summer School taster day where you will experience some of the modules you can expect upon starting the course in full.

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

From School

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4
  • To include English and maths GCSEs at 9-4

From College

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher
  • English and/or maths at level 2 or higher
