About the course

This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in the health and social care sector. It is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a route into university or higher education. The units chosen enable you to achieve the maximum number of placement hours available on the standard Extended Diploma, giving you a significant advantage when making career choices.

  • You will have the opportunity to apply for the Frimley Park nursing cadet scheme
  • Our purpose-built spaces include a hospital cubicle 
  • Careers related to health and social care include nursing, midwifery, social work, health care assistant or paramedic practice

If you are looking for a rewarding career, the health care sector opens up many opportunities to make a difference in people’s lives. This programme was designed in close collaboration with industry, aiming to equip you with the skill, knowledge and work experience. During your studies you will learn the importance of safeguarding, caring for child and young people, anatomy and physiology.

Costs

Additional costs will be incurred for a DBS check, polo shirt, visits and textbooks.

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care (EXAM)

  • Work Experience in Health and Social Care
  • Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
  • Promoting Public Health

 

Plus five Specialist Units:

  • Sociological Perspectives
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Physiological Disorders and their Care
  • Nutritional Health
  • Supporting individuals with additional needs

How will I be assessed?

The course includes mandatory work placements in a wide range of vocational settings, subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

What Next?

This programme is equivalent to 3 ‘A’ levels and provides the ideal foundation for university study should you wish to pursue a career in nursing, midwifery, social work or paramedic practice.

Entry Requirements

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through four exams (two in each year) and coursework.

The course includes mandatory work placements in a wide range of vocational settings, subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

From School

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4
  • To include English language and maths GCSEs at 9-4

From College

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher
  • English and maths at level 2 or higher
