Overview

About the course

You will spend 80% of your time at college and 20% on placements gaining first-hand experience. In your second year of study, you can choose to specialise in either: Supporting the Adult Nursing Team, Supporting the Midwifery Team, Supporting the Therapy Team, Supporting the Mental Health Team or Supporting the care of Children and Young People. This course is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a route into employment or further study. Students can progress into roles such as: 

Students can also use this T Level to progress to a related higher-level apprenticeship or course of study at a higher level.

Who is this programme for?  

This course is ideal for school leavers who want to help others, have a naturally caring nature and have an interest in working in the health sector. With a mix of classroom based learning and hands-on assements, both at the college and in the workplace, students who study this course will be well-prepared for either higher education or stepping straight into employment.

How will I be taught?

T Levels place great emphasis on industry experience, so during this course you will spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on a 45-day placement with an employer. This will give you the skills, knowledge and hands-on experience that companies are looking for when you step foot into the workplace.

Core component (Year 1):

  • Working within the health and science centre
  • The Healthcare sector
  • Health, safety and environmental regulations in the health and science sector
  • Health and safety regulations applicable to the healthcare sector
  • Managing information and data within the health and science sector
  • Managing personal information
  • Good scientific and clinical practice
  • Providing person-centred care
  • Health and well being
  • Infection prevention and control in health specific settings
  • Safeguarding

Options (Year 2):

A:  Supporting the Adult nursing team

B:  Supporting the Midwifery Team

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through:

  • Two exams and an employer set project (Year 1)
  • A case study assessment, 2 practical activities assessments, a professional discussion (Year 2)

The course includes mandatory work placements in a range of vocational settings, subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

What Next?

Following successful completion of this T Level in Health, the natural progression route is to continue studying through an apprenticeship, to study a related subject at university or go into employment. Careers in the health sector can include*:

Entry Requirements

What is the entry process?

From School 

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4 (to include English language, maths, and science GCSEs at 9-4) 

From College 

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher (to include English and maths at level 2 or higher)
