The aim of the course is to provide you with a route into higher education at university or college. The qualification is a full-time course equivalent of two to three A Levels and takes one year to complete.

This course aims to provide you with a broad base of business. You will identify key terms, concepts and features of the business sector; you will examine in depth the strategic and operational methods business employ to achieve their goals and the internal and external factors that can affect these. The final unit will look at business finance and the features which influence which source of finance is most appropriate to a company. This subject is studies alongside Economics.
Studying English Literature allows students to analyse and research plays, poetry, short stories and in terms of subject, genre, history and technique. The course explores the Gothic genre in detail and develops analytical skills needed to understand, contextualise and interpret texts.
Studying English Literature is excellent for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching, those looking to further their studies in literature and those who wish to develop their understanding of how literature works.
To be studied alongside business studies, this course is designed to give you a wide overview of terms and conditions used in business economics. You will also study the UK economy in detail looking at the issues the country faces. Other units will look at macroeconomics and how economic policies can be used to influence them and in the final unit you will study globalisation and the impact this has on the UK economy.
Your studies will complement your academic studies. The main areas covered are algebra, number systems, geometry and basic trigonometry.
This part of the course focuses on developing the practical skills you will use on a higher education course; including essay writing, referencing and effective note-taking.
You will receive all the help you need with university applications and study support in a weekly tutorial, which also gives you the chance to talk to your tutor about your academic progress and plans for university.
After successfully completing the diploma you will be prepared for studying a university-level (higher education) course at university or college.

This course is designed for mature students, aged 19 or over, who have had sufficient life or work experience between leaving school and starting the diploma.
To make sure this is the right course for you, acceptance onto the diploma is based on aptitude and commitment following an interview and assessment.
You will need an English Language GCSE at grade C or above and usually GCSE Mathematics or Functional Skills in Numeracy.
