About the course

To kickstart a revolution in greener living, the Green Homes Grant will help up to 600,000 British homeowners and landlords create more energy-efficient homes. Farnborough College of Technology (Aldershot Campus) are delivering a number of accredited training to the low carbon installation sector to support the industry to install energy efficient measures. In the main, these qualifications are designed to upskill existing Plumbers or Electricians.

Who is this programme for?

 

This qualification is designed to enable learners to understand, and be competent when carrying out the design of heating systems in accordance with Part L of the Building Regulations.

*NOW UPDATED* to the 2018 version of the Domestic Building Compliance Guide - and now incorporating the Boiler Plus scheme.

This is a qualification designed for operatives working within the Building Engineering Services industry and is a pre-requisite to some other qualifications in the renewables sector.

This qualification is based on the current Approved Document Part L and Domestic Heating Compliance Guide.

What modules are covered?

  • Know the regulatory requirements and sources of guidance for energy efficiency standards for gas-fired and oil-fired heating appliances connected to ‘wet’ heating circuits
  • Know the requirement of minimum boiler efficiency standards for gas-fired and oil-fired heating appliances connected to ‘wet’ heating circuits
  • Be able to determine if a non-condensing boiler installation would be acceptable
  • Know the requirement relating to space heating primary circuits type and design for gas-fired and oil-fired ‘wet’ heating systems
  • Know the compliance standards requirement for hot water storage vessels
  • Know the requirements relating to the preparation and water treatment of hot water systems and wet central heating systems
  • Know the requirements relating to the commissioning of hot water systems and wet central heating systems
  • Know the requirements of the minimum standards for the control of gas-fired and oil-fired wet central heating systems
  • Know the requirements of the minimum standards for the control of insulation of pipework for gas-fired and oil-fired wet central heating and hot water storage systems
  • Know the requirements relating to stand-alone, glandless heating system circulators

The course is assessed using an e-assessment.

None, but the target group for this qualification are those learners who are; Heating Engineers, Design Engineers and operatives in the building services industry
