About the course

To kickstart a revolution in greener living, the Green Homes Grant will help up to 600,000 British homeowners and landlords create more energy-efficient homes. Farnborough College of Technology (Aldershot Campus) are delivering a number of accredited training to the low carbon installation sector to support the industry to install energy efficient measures. In the main, these qualifications are designed to upskill existing Plumbers or Electricians. 

Who is this programme for?

This course is for those who wish to demonstrate competence in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of wood pellet burning appliances in accordance with legislation, regulations and industry standards.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

Candidates must hold one of the following:

  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing 
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating 
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services 
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance 
  • JIB-PMES/CSCS card
  • Engineering Services SKILL card 
  • have the equivalent working experience


Hold a gas, oil or solid fuel qualification that will enable registration with a Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) to notify heat producing central heating appliances installed in compliance with Building Regulation Approved Document J.


A current industry recognised qualification in Water Regulations and Energy Efficiency if not included in the qualifications above.
