About the course

The aim of this course is to develop thoughtful, highly skilled and ambitious fashion and textile creatives who understand the business attributes required to become successful and forward-thinking designers and makers.

You will gain an in-depth understanding of how the fashion and textile industry operates, explore sustainable and ethical production processes and develop collaborative skills through team working projects.

Course Highlights:

  • Explore a variety of fashion and textile disciplines including drawing techniques, patterncutting and garment construction processes, fashion illustration, CAD, printed, embroidered and constructed textile techniques.
  • Develop an understanding of sustainable and ethical fashion and textile processes.
  • Get an insight into the fashion and textile industry by attending guest lectures, previous visitors include Omar Mansoor, Vz Perfection and Eleanor Bret-Day.
  • Gain industry experience by undertaking a work placement, organising your own end of course presentation and working behind the scenes at London Fashion Week/Top Model.
  • Set up your own label or fashion and textile company as part of your studies and gain an understanding of the business skills required to do this.

This degree is aimed at learners who want to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of fashion, textiles and business with a view to working in these creative industries or setting uo your own business.

You could be currently studying a creative Level 3, A’ Level or Foundation Art and Design course, be returning to education after a break or looking to change career direction.

What modules are covered?

On this programme students will be given opportunities to develop patterncutting and garment construction techniques, printed, embroidered and constructed textile processes along with gaining an understanding of visual recording, computer aided design, sustainable and ethical creative processes, business and marketing practices. During the second year of the course you will have the opportunity to focus your studies into your area of interest as well as undertaking collaborative work and completing a major personal project.
