About

About this course

This degree is suitable for students with a foundation degree or HND in a relevant subject and would like to gain a full honours degree.

The core purpose of the BA (Hons) Top-up Degree in Photography is to prepare graduating students for the varied and exciting world of professional photography. The programme recognises the diversity of contemporary photographic practice with the opportunity for study across a range of application before selecting a specific vocational pathway.

Being taught over two full days per week, the course also gives you more flexibility in balancing work or family commitments.

The course includes a variety of specialist technologies from the traditions of analogue photography to high end digital image making but with a concentration upon the considered production of photographic imagery suitable to purpose. The programme includes comprehensive practical instruction alongside a critical and engaged examination of the contextual issues that surround the medium. Students are invited to explore and experiment within specialist fields of photographic practice and to find a visual language suitable to their own professional aspirations.

The course includes opportunities for visits to professional studios, galleries and museums, both here and abroad. Opportunities to participate in trips specific to the programme are provided and students recently completed visits to Paris Photo, Foam Gallery, Amsterdam and The Bauhaus Museum in Berlin.

We strongly encourage and support links to employment and industry, and provide modules for students to engage in work placement and professional practice. The programme provides a platform for entry into the photographic and/or media industries or to the continuation of Higher Education at Post Graduate Level.

“”

The course taught me how to explore documentary photography in further depth, and a number of techniques including black and white colour printing. I also learned how to write to a high level, through our assignments, which were on photography history, for example.

There were so many advantages to studying at University Centre Farnborough, like the small class sizes which meant that we had more help available to us, and the fact that it was close to where I live so I could commute to Farnborough. Though the highlight of my degree was completing my final major project - my mentor supported me with my written and practical work all the way through, so that I could get the highest mark I could.
