About this course

The aim of the degree is to offer a comprehensive set of creative, practical and entrepreneurial skills that are vital for working within the film industry, as well as anticipating future needs. This degree has the advantage of being closely aligned to the needs of anyone seeking to be a director, producer, or editor within film production because of its focus on a diverse range of film-making practices, including films for the cinema, DVD/Blu-ray media, and on the internet.

This is a fast-track two-year degree course that is designed to enable students to work closely with others and be immersed in the film-making environment.

What will I study?

At level 4, you will learn foundation skills of using the camera, recording sound, and editing. Your work will be constantly updated by the latest ideas and debates within the film-making community about key theoretical concepts such as genre and authorship.

At level 5 you will explore digital alternatives to film, as well as develop a more advanced understanding of cinematography, sound design, directing actors and post-production skills. These practical modules will be supported in a wider context, including production management, global media and music production film. In addition you will develop your employability skills to help find work within the film industry.

At Level 6 you will complete a personal project which enables you to collaborate within a team to produce a professional drama for your dissertation. You will also consider film marketing and promotion to prepare you for the successful release of a film, while taking a close look at other types of commercial film-making, including genre film.
