About this course

This course consists of a number of HRM and Business related units. Its aim is to provide you with both knowledge of the HR profession and a set of transferrable skills which you can use to help improve the performance of the organisation in which you work.  The Diploma incorporates the Level 5 Certificate so you do not need to have this to apply for the Diploma.

They are a globally recognised brand with over 140,000 members and pride themselves on supporting and developing those responsible for the management and development of people within organisations. CIPD membership and qualifications are widely acknowledged as a benchmark for professionalism and are a requirement for many roles in human resources and learning and development.  The college is proud to be an accredited CIPD centre

Who is this programme for?

If you are already working in HR or L&D and want to develop your knowledge and skills, or a line manager wanting to switch careers, then this undergraduate degree-level qualification is the choice for you. 

What will I study?

You will study both HR and business related units to help you develop your career as an HR professional.  What you learn can then be transferred and applied to the workplace. Classes provide you with an excellent networking opportunity to explore ideas with other like minded students.  As this is a degree level qualification all assignments will need to be underpinned with academic research and referencing, which is another key skill that can be used for future work based projects.

Costs

You must become a student member at the beginning of your course. As a student member of the CIPD benefits will include access to the CIPD student resources, copies of the CIPD’s People Management magazine plus access to networking and other opportunities via the CIPD branch network. Students will be responsible for your own membership joining fees payable directly to the CIPD – please see their website for more details. 

There is a well stocked library within the College and individual lecturers will advise on recommended texts so students are advised not to purchase texts until induction.

How will I be taught?

Learning methods include:

  • Lectures
  • Facilitated workshops
  • Group work, case study analysis, class discussions, role plays, research, and presentations
  • Moodle - a ‘virtual learning environment’ which has copies of documents, class notes, discussion forums etc
  • You may be asked to prepare work before classes, for example by finding and reading journal articles.
  • Self-study activities
  • Students must achieve an 80% minimum attendance requirement and commit to self-directed study when preparing for class/group work and assignments.

Students will also be required to attend pre-arranged individual tutorials.

How will I be assessed?

Continuous assessment is used throughout the course by a variety of written assignments and skills activities. There are no exams

What training will be provided?

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, facilitated workshops, case study analysis and guided self-study.

Progression

What Next?

After successfully completing this qualification, you will be welcome to progress to the Advanced CIPD Level 7 qualifications in Human Recourses Management. Discussion with a tutor is required prior to or at enrolment.

Entry Requirements

What is the entry process?

Discussion with a member of the HR teaching team is required prior to, or at enrolment, as the CIPD have a series of questions that need to be asked to ensure you are given correct advice.  Once these questions have been answered enrolment can proceed.

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

This course is aimed at students who have completed a level 3 course e.g.  a CIPD Foundation Certificate, A Levels, Level 3 National Diploma or equivalent and evidence of these qualifications will need to be produced before the courses starts. It is also suitable for those with a degree in a non-related subject area who would like to enter the HR profession.
