About the course

This course is a short taster course that will introduce key terms and discuss the inclusion of neuroscience in the adult’s knowledge and understanding of how the baby / child’s brain develops and the significant influence this has on a child’s holistic development.

Who is this programme for?

This course aims to give you an insight into the developing brain and the knowledge and understanding of how this can influence Early Years practice.

Your course

How will I be taught?

Input will be by 4 x workshops case. This will enable students to be introduced to key elements in a brief and initial fashon. It will encourage you to reflect on your practice and discuss any pedagogical development as you apply the information identified throughout the course.

Your placement experience will also be extensively used.

An initial look at neuroscience in Early Years, including:

  • Key terms/language brain architecture
  • The developing brain and how it is shaped through experiences
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences and their impact on brain development

Entry Requirements

How will I be assessed?

There are no formal summative assessments allocated to this course. Reflection and discussion will be utilised to support ongoing formative assessment throughout the 4 sessions. An attendance certificate will be issued on successful completion of the 4 sessions.
