This training programme is intended for those working in a hairdressing salon.
The NVQ Diploma is mainly assessed in the workplace. You will attend Farnborough College of Technology once a week to learn the underpinning knowledge and develop your skills. You will need to buy hairdressing tools and text books that cost approximately £230.
Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. Hairdressers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

The programme covers a range of practical skills and theory and includes the following four components:
1. NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (Level 2)
Optional Units: (choose at least 1 unit)
2. Functional Skills: English & Maths (Level 1)
3. Employment Rights & Responsibilities Workbook
4. Personal Thinking & Learning Skills
The NVQ Diploma is mainly assessed in the workplace. You will have an End Point Assessment by an external examiner for 5-6 hours where you will need to demonstrate a variety of practical skills to gain the qualification.
