This training programme is intended for new or existing staff working in domestic and commercial premises, to given specifications, repairing or renewing wood products, plumbing, wall and floor tiling, decorating, bricklaying and plastering depending upon the routes taken in the qualification.

Mandatory Units:

  • Deliver reliable customer service
  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace

Optional Units:

  • Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace
  • Establishing Work Area Protection and Safety in the Workplace
  • Clearing the Site and Handing Over on Completion in the Workplace

Technical Certificate: Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance

How will I be assessed?

The NVQ Diploma is achieved by the creation of a portfolio including workplace evidence and supported by on site assessments.

What training will be provided?

On and off the job training. Apprentices also attend Aldershot College once a week to learn the underpinning knowledge required and to develop their skills. In addition, there are regular progress monitoring and support visits to the workplace.

What Next?

Progression from this pathway

There are opportunities to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) in Bricklaying, Plastering, Carpentry and Joinery, Wall and Floor Tiling and Painting and Decorating (there is not an advanced apprenticeship in maintenance operations). After gaining work experience in the chosen occupational area there are also opportunities to progress into occupational work supervision, management or technical support areas.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

GCSE’s from grade 3 or E will be considered along with the results of an initial assessment.
