Introduction to Textile Techniques
Overview
About the course
This introductory course provides you with the opportunity to try out a range of textile techniques. You will learn the basics of tray dyeing, indigo shibori, cyanotypes and eco-printing and will be able to create a range of reference sample fabrics. The course is designed to give students hands-on practical experience in a range of textile processes which could then be used in their own creative textile/fashion work.
Who is this programme for?
This course is for anyone with an interest in Textiles who would like to explore fabric dyeing processes. Equipment and dyes will be provided during the course, students will need to provide their own 100% cotton and silk fabric and medium/heavyweight watercolour paper. How will I be taught?
The sessions will be all practical with demonstrations and then class time for you to explore the technique/s.
What modules are covered?
1st Week – Tray dyeing with Procion dyes.
2nd and 3rd Weeks – Indigo Shibori, tied, clamped, bound and stitched processes.
4th Week – Cyanotypes on Fabric
5th Week – Eco-printing
What training will be provided?
Practical instruction into a range of textile techniques.

What Next?
Students could progress from this course onto the Access to Art and Design programme or study further evening courses in textiles.
