About the course

Are you looking to become a carpenter? If so, this course is an ideal stepping stone to your dream career. You will work with a range of tools and perfect techniques to produce work to a professional standard. On completion of the course, you will feel prepared for a more advanced training programme or to start work as an apprentice.

Carpenters construct, erect, install and repair wooden structures and fittings used in internal and external frameworks. They also cut, shape, fit and assemble wood to make templates, jigs, scale models and scenic equipment for theatres. This makes it both a hands-on and creative subject to study.

Who is this programme for?

This course is ideal for School Leavers who have completed a level 1 Carpentry course, or have relevant experience, and wish to pursue a career in carpentry. Upon completion candidates will be awarded the City & Guilds Diploma in Site Carpentry.

Costs

Your course

How will I be taught?

Candidates will be taught using a mixture of theory and practical lessons. All practical lessons will take place in our purpose-built workshops under the instruction of staff with extensive industry experience.

What modules are covered?

The qualification comprises of the following units:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Principles of building construction
  • First fix flooring and roofing
  • First fix frames, partitions and stairs
  • Second fixing operations
  • Carpentry maintenance
  • Set up and operation of a circular saw
  • Work experience (two weeks)

  • Online tests
  • Multiple-choice papers
  • Practical assessment

What Next?

Many of our Level 2 students progress to the Intermediate Apprenticeship in SIte Carpentry or to employment within the industry.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

This course is for students progressing from the level 1 course. 

From school:

  • Five GCSEs at grades 4 and above (including English and maths)

From college:

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher (to include English and maths at level 2 or higher)
