About the course

The level 2 Diploma in care is aimed at learners working or volunteering in working in adult social care in England.

An adult care worker’s role in care is to make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, or intellectual challenges. Adult care workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings.

The level 2 Diploma in care is vocationally based so you can demonstrate achievement of knowledge, understanding and practical in a variety of roles in the care environment. It is a nationally recognised and accredited qualification.

Who is this programme for?

Adult care workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings.
Start this course as soon as you're ready - no need to wait for a new term to begin  and option to complete the course faster by putting in extra time. This is delivered in the workplace with the support of an assessor.

How will I be taught?

This is delivery in the workplace, online and face to face. 

What modules are covered?

The level 2 in diploma in care includes 9 mandatory units in group A. The units in group B are optional; learners may take any combination of optional units to achieve the requirements of the qualification. The mandatory units are: 

Mandatory Units:

  • Communication in care settings
  • Personal development in care settings
  • Equality and Inclusion in care settings
  • Duty of care in care settings
  • Safeguarding and protection in care settings
  • Responsibilities of a Care Worker
  • Implement person-centred approaches in care settings
  • Health, safety and wellbeing in care settings
  • Handling information in care settings

Further optional units will need to be completed to achieve this qualification.

How will I be assessed?

You will build a portfolio of evidence, which will include observations in the workplace.

What Next?

Learners who achieve Level 2 Diploma in Care (England) can choose to progress to the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker. Achievement of the Level 2 qualification, together with additional training, can also support progression to job roles that require a more complex set of skills and responsibility, e.g., lead adult care worker, lead personal assistant.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

This training programme is intended for new or existing staff working in or providing support within a care environment. The entry criteria are staff aged 18 and over with GCSE's grades 2 - 9 or D - A* in Maths and English.  GCSE's will be considered along with the results of an initial assessment.

You will also need to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result prior to starting.
