How will I be taught?

Study Method – Online and On Campus

  • Online video lectures are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer, meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons last for around 45 minutes and are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Exercises, interactive case studies and analytical tools help to enhance the learning experience further. Students will be expected to undertake 6 hours of additional study every week out of college.
  • On campus, you benefit from regular college classes – without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Experienced tutors will discuss and reinforce what you have learnt during your online study and are on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Discussion and debate with classmates will help you apply theories to situations you face in the workplace.
  • You will be provided with on line material supplied by Mindful Education, supported by regular workshops every two weeks at the college. The course is specifically designed to be more flexible than attending two evenings or one day a week.
  • You will be required to complete the on-line sessions before attending the relevant workshops. You will be provided with a detailed schedule during induction and help is available via email if you encounter problems between workshops. To get the best out of your studies you need to be focused and manage your time effectively, but studying on line through a blended learning approach does give you flexibility to manage your time in a way that suits you with the added benefit of monitoring and workshops.
  • On-line completion and attendance at workshops will be monitored and noncompliance will result in withdrawal from the course without a refund.  You must therefore, think carefully about whether or not you can commit to the required hours. You will be required to sign a learning agreement to confirm you understand these rules.

What modules are covered?

The subjects of the course are set in accordance with the Financial Skills Partnership (FSP) National Occupational Standards as follows:

  • BTRN           Bookkeeping Transactions
  • BKCL            Bookkeeping Controls

How will I be assessed?

After the initial weeks of tuition you will complete computer based assessments set by the AAT and arranged in conjunction with your lecturer. There is a programme of support and revision for these assessments and you will be fully equipped to achieve. You will be given an exam date and a second opportunity to re-sit if you do not pass first time. After that you must re-join as a new student and pay again for the course.

AAT Benefits

AAT offers a range of benefits for student members (including study support, career advice to help find the perfect job and exclusive discounts), as well as a route into chartered accountancy. If you choose to further your studies with one of the leading chartered professional bodies, such as ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA, your AAT qualifications will give you generous exemptions.
