Overview
About the course
One Year - 2 Days and 1 Evening (13 hours per week) so you can fit study alongside a job or family commitments.
You will learn in our fully-equipped commercial hair and beauty salons at The Hair and Beauty Academy. The salons feature a wide range of industry-standard equipment and products allowing you to learn in a state-of-the-art, professional working environment.
The salons are open to the public and you will provide a range of hair, beauty and holistic treatments to paying clients, so you can enhance your customer service and communication skills while gaining practical, hands-on experience.
Who is this programme for?
For students over 19 who wish to retrain.

- The kits will be available to order online via our website
- The dress code is all black clothing and it must to be compliant with work attire and health and safety

Your course
How will I be taught?
- In our real working environment you will develop the practical skills on members of the general public
- In theory classes tutors will deliver the underpinning knowledge in hairdressing

- Advise and consult with clients
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Style and finish hair
- Set and dress hair
- Cut hair using basic techniques
- Colour and lighten hair
- Plait and twist hair
- Fulfil salon reception duties
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- Perm and neutralise hair
How will I be assessed?
Assessments in all units are undertaken in College, and are a mixture of theory and practical work.

What Next?
Successful completion of this course will enable progression onto Level 2 Barbering and Level 3 Ladies Hairdressing.
Entry Requirements
What is the entry process?
Students will be screened to check literacy and numeracy. In addition, if English is not the first language, applicants will be asked to do a Diagnostic Test; this will determine the appropriate course and level for each student.
What previous qualifications and experience will I need?
- For students over 19 who wish to retrain
- No previous experience required in the industry
