About the course

This course (formerly known as PTLLS) is an introductory teaching qualification for those thinking about going into teaching as a career or who are already in teaching and need to gain their initial teaching qualification.

The course aims to develop confidence and competence in teaching people over the age of 16 and has been developed to give learners the opportunity to:

  • Develop knowledge related to teaching and learning
  • Develop skills in teaching and learning
  • Achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification
  • Develop their own personal growth and engagement in teaching and learning

Your course

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed throughout the course by written work and practical activities.

You will cover the following units:
Unit 1  Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
Unit 4  Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training
Unit 5  Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

How will I be assessed?

At the end of the course you will submit a portfolio of evidence of work, including:

  • 5 x short written assignments

Delivery and evidence of:

  • A 30 minute micro-teach to the rest of the group, observed and assessed by your tutor.
  • Self-evaluations
  • Peer assessments

What Next?

The award is an introductory teaching qualification, and if you become more involved in teaching and training you will be able to move to a higher level course such as the Professional Certificate in Education (PCE) or the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
