About this course

The CYQ Certificate in Personal Training is an appropriate qualification for those who have achieved the Level 2 Certificate in Exercise and Fitness Instruction (or comparable award), and wish to progress to advanced level status on the Register of Exercise Professionals [REPS] as a Level 3 Personal Trainer.

The qualification aims to give experienced trainers the knowledge and skill set to motivate and inspire clients towards achieving their training goals at an advanced level. This programme is designed to give the personal trainer cutting edge skills to deliver a high end product to their clients and enhance their PT business opportunities.

How will I be taught?

The first two hours will provide theory input in the form of lecture and workshop tasks. The second two hours will involve practical application.

What modules are covered?

The course is made up of the following units:

  • Unit 1 Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity.
  • Unit 2 Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment.
  • Unit 3 Principles of exercise, fitness and health.
  • Unit 4 Anatomy and Physiology for exercise and health.
  • Unit 5 Programming personal training for clients.
  • Unit 6 Delivering personal training sessions.
  • Unit 7 Applying principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme.

All units are mandatory and must be passed in order to achieve the full Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment of all units is through a mixture of practical assessments, portfolio evidence assignments and short answer examinations.

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

There are no formal requirements for entry for this qualification. Candidates will be expected to have a standard of literacy and numeracy and a level of industry knowledge appropriate for a person working at Level 3.
