About the course

Studying the Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Special Educational Needs will enable you to support people with a range of disabilities in achieving their full learning potential. It aims to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to understand Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and the process of early intervention. It also covers the legislation which impacts on SEND, as well as the role and responsibilities of the SEN Coordinator. 

Who is this programme for?

This course is designed for anyone working with SEN children, from foster families and social workers to nursery assistants and teachers. Beyond this qualification, the course aims to equip you with the skills and resources necessary to help SEN students achieve.

There is one mandatory module for this course titled ‘Principles of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities’. This has four learning outcomes whereby you will be able to: 

  • Understand Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)  
  • Understand the process of early intervention  
  • Understand the legislation which impacts on SEND  
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the SEN Co-ordinator
