This one-year foundation course is designed to help you to expand your skills in preparation for higher education. If you want to study a creative subject at a degree level but would like to develop your skills and confidence first, then choosing the Level 3 UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is a great place to start. This course is designed to build on your skills and develop your practice to gain the necessary skills and portfolio to apply to a range of art and design degree courses. It is an ideal choice for those who have completed A levels or Level 3 to act as a bridge to Higher Education or for those looking to return to education.
This course is ideal for those who have completed A levels or a Level 3 qualification in Art and Design, or related subjects and want to develop their skills, confidence and portfolio prior to undertaking a degree course. The course is also suitable for those who may be looking to return to education.
The Foundation Diploma will offer you the opportunity to Study a broad range of creative projects, experiencing a range of ideas, and developing a portfolio which reflects your chosen specialism.
The course is made of three units which will build upon one another as you progress through the year.

You will be taught through a combination of workshops, lectures, seminars and practical sessions, and independent study.
Unit 1: Diagnostic Investigation into Creative Practice (Level 3)
Within this unit you will have the opportunity to explore a range of creative areas such as photography, graphic design, typography, illustration, drawing, fashion & textiles, printmaking, and fine art. This unit encourages learners to explore their potential and try different approaches to discover their preferred areas of study. Alongside this exploration learners will develop their research skills and critical understanding
Unit 2: Developing Specialist Practice (Level 3)
Having explored different areas and techniques within unit 1, this unit gives learners the freedom to identify and develop their specialist area through a range of projects and to deepen their understanding of their practice.
Unit 3: Consolidating Practice (Level 4)
This unit gives learners the opportunity to take control of their own learning and demonstrate their skills through a self-devised Final Major Project.
This course is 100% coursework based and continually assessed.
This qualification is designed to provide students with the relevant skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into further and higher education courses and/or into training or employment within the creative sector.
