On this programme you will study the main skills required to start your journey to becoming a successful hairdresser.

Who is this programme for?
The course is available for school leavers over two years. We also run an intensive course at level 2 for students over 19 for one year.
What will I study?
Practical skills are developed in our salon which is open to the general public and the underpinning knowledge for all the units are carried out in a theory setting.

Your course
How will I be taught?
- In our real working environment you will develop practical skills on clients
- Theory classes will deliver the underpinning knowledge in hairdressing
- Maths and English classes are taught in additional to the vocational course
What modules are covered?
- Advise and consult with clients
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Style and finish hair
- Set and dress hair
- Cut hair
- Colour and lighten hair
- Plait and twist hair
- Fulfil salon reception duties
- Perm and neutralise hair
How will I be assessed?
Assessments in all units are undertaken in College, and are a mixture of theory and practical work with online exams and practical observations on clients.
What training will be provided?
- All modules are delivered in a in the hair salon at college on paying clients
- Additional external training courses available during the year
- Guest speaker and presentations from the industry are regular features as well as visit to exhibitions and the Wella Studio in London

What Next?
On successful completion of the course you can progress on to the level 3 qualification in hairdressing.
Entry Requirements
How will I be assessed?
Students will be screened to establish literacy and numeracy levels. In addition, if English is not the first language, applicants will be asked to do a Diagnostic Test. This will determine the appropriate course and level for each student.
What previous qualifications and experience will I need?
From School
- Four GCSEs at grades 9-3
- To include English or maths GCSEs at grades 9-3
From College
- Entry level 3 qualification in English and maths
