The Professional Certificate in Education (PCE) is a part-time, in-service teacher training programme run through the University of Greenwich.
It provides a great opportunity for those new to teaching in the Further Education and Skills Sector and those teachers who already have some experience who want to develop their teaching skills and become fully qualified. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to develop effective practice and gain up to date knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment strategies.

Structure and Attendance
This is a two year, part time course and there are two modes of delivery. You can either attend on one afternoon per week for two years. Alternatively, if you have a degree and some teaching experience, you can choose the ‘Distance Learning’ option, in which you attend for 16 sessions in the evening over the two years.
Candidate will be assessed on the basis of written assignments for each module and will be observed in their teaching practice on four occasions in year one and four occasions in year two.

Once you have completed your PGCE, you can apply for a Qualified Teaching and Learning Skills status. QTLS is the badge of professionalism for post-16 education and training, helping practitioners advance in their careers and demonstrate their expertise and experience to colleagues, employers and learners.
As this is an in-service teacher training programme, you will need to already be teaching in an appropriate educational establishment for a minimum of 50 hours for each year of the programme. You will also need to have a Level 3 Subject Specialist qualification.
You do not need to have a degree to join this programme.
