About the course

Dive into the world of onsite construction with the Onsite Construction T Level, where you’ll learn how the construction industry works, the principles of design, technology and sustainability, and much more! Following successful completion of this T Level, you could go onto a range of careers including but not exclusive to:  

Equivalent to three A Levels, students can also use this T Level to progress to a related higher-level apprenticeship or course of study at a higher level. 

During this T Level, you will study core units in your first year and then have the chance to specialise in one of the following areas:

  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Plastering
  • Painting and Decorating

What modules are covered?

All students will develop a general understanding of construction, including:

  • The science behind building design, surveying, and planning
  • Making accurate and appropriate measurements
  • Construction methods
  • Building regulations and standards
  • Data management and information standards in construction
  • Relationship management and customer service
  • How the Internet of Things (IoT) impacts construction
  • Digital engineering techniques
  • Mathematical techniques to solve construction problems
  • Health and safety
  • Construction design principles and processes
  • The construction industry and its role in the economy
  • Sustainability and the environmental impact of construction
  • Business, commerce and corporate social responsibility

 

Optional Specialism

In addition to the core content, each student must choose one of the following specialisms:

  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Plastering
  • Painting and Decorating

Transferable skills

  • Applying a logical approach to solving problems, identifying issues, and proposing solutions
  • Primary research e.g. obtaining measurements related to a design and/or customer requirements
  • Communication e.g. providing information and advice to customers and/or wider stakeholders
  • Working collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders e.g. to develop content to bid for a construction project.

Entry Requirements

How will I be assessed?

  • Two externally set exams covering knowledge from the onsite construction core content
  • One employer-set project covering knowledge and skills from the Onsite construction core
  • One occupational specialism practical assignment made up of several tasks covering the knowledge and skills from the chosen occupational specialisms

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

From school:

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4 (to include English and maths GCSE at 9-4)

From college:

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher (to include English and maths at level 2 or higher)
