About the course

Learn how various equipment is maintained and repaired, with the option to specialise in engineering or motor vehicle disciplines. During this 2-year programme, you will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed to embark on a range of maintenance, installation, and repair occupations, including:

Who is this programme for?

This course is ideal for School Leavers interested in a career in the maintenance, repair, process and production of equipment in manufacturing. It is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a route into the workplace or onto higher education.

What modules are covered?

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, with core units including:

  • Working within the Engineering and Manufacturing Sectors – an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products
  • Essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing – a knowledge and understanding of mathematics including standard matrices and determinants and standard trigonometry
  • Materials and their properties – understanding material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality, the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and techniques
  • Business, commercial and financial awareness - basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation

Optional Specialism

In addition to the core content, you will also complete at least one module of occupation-specific content. The specialisms available in the T Level in Maintenance, installation and repair for Engineering and Manufacturing are:

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

From School:

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4 (to include English and maths GCSEs at 9-4)

From College:

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher (to include English and maths at level 2 or higher)
