Room Leader
Reporting to: Age Group Leader/Deputy Manager & Manager
Purpose of role: To work with the Nursery Manager to ensure that the nursery school is fully compliant with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, and to
deputise for the nursery manager as required;

Working with: The proprietor, the leadership team and colleagues employed at the Nursery school

The Room Leader ensure that his/her working practices will reflect the highest standards in pursuit of these aims.
The Room Leader’s focus will be to address and develop the following:

Compliance
• Support the Age Group Leader in leading the age group in accordance with company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and local authority and
OFSTED requirements, seeking advice and support from the Age Group Leader when needed.
• Supervise the age group in the absence of the Age Group Leader.
• Assist the company in achieving and maintaining an outstanding OFSTED rating, appropriately preparing for OFSTED inspections (including maintaining and developing
ongoing evidence of outstanding practice) and action any recommendations that may result from an inspection.
• On a daily basis assist the Age Group Leader in deploying staff to meet EYFS staffing requirements (i.e. age appropriate staff: child ratios and qualified: unqualified ratio) and to ensure continuity of care for children.
• Ensure all staff working within the age group have a solid understanding of up to date policies and procedures

Safeguarding
• Ensure that own work practices take into account the welfare & safeguarding of each child within the Nursery school
• Where relevant, work proactively with the relevant agencies in dealing with all Safeguarding issues to ensure the children are protected to the highest standards
• Work proactively with the Age Group Leader to ensure that staff within the age group have a solid understanding of the most up to date safeguarding policy

Care and Education
• Assist the Age Group Leader in deploying staff as required to ensure that the nursery school’s daily routines are followed.
• Ensure that children’s observations and Long, Medium and Short Term planning within the age group are completed, kept up to date and carried out through Blossom.
• Support the requirements of children in the age group with special needs, with reference to the SEN Code of Practice, so that the company’s admission policy may be as inclusive as
possible.
• Develop and maintain the environment and equipment of the relevant rooms to ensure that
a high quality learning space which offers children a wide range of experiences and supports their independence and decision making skills is provided.
• Support the Age Group Leader to operate a programme of suitable learning and play activities in line with the EYFS to foster the growth, happiness and development of every
individual child.
• Support the Age Group Leader with the development and maintenance of appropriate planning, observation and assessment procedures to ensure a consistent service and
implement a recording system for individual children, which can be shared with parents and other professionals and agencies enabling improvements to working methods and service.
• Assist the Age Group Leader to ensure that submission of Two Year Progress Checks and Foundation Stage Profile data is completed.
• Support the Age Group Leader to ensure that supplies and stock, such as nappies and gloves, are ordered in sufficient time.

Human Resources
• Supervise teaching assistants, students, trainees, volunteers and others on work placements/experience in order that they receive the appropriate support. Support the Age Group Leader to establish relationships with colleges and schools as necessary in order that their activities are coordinated.
• Participate in inductions for all new staff members, students and volunteers alongside the Age Group Leader.

Partnership with Parents
• When appropriate, work with the Age Group Leader to effectively and efficiently handling
parental complaints, whether childcare or business in nature.
• Working in partnership with parents and the Age Group Leader, participate in an effective
parent liaison programme, ensuring regular communication and interaction with parents
including, monitoring the settling in process of all new children/room movers, promoting
and enabling a parent’s close involvement in their child’s development.

Management
• Attend and actively participate in team meetings and reviews
• Participate in and deliver in-house training if applicable
• Maintain regular and effective communication with the Age Group Leader and other key
people in Dreamcatcher Childcare
• Maintain and participate in appropriate sector activities outside the Nursery e.g. conferences, local forums, moderation.
• Work in partnership with outside agencies, maintaining contact and organising visits, seeking advice from the Age Group Leader where necessary.

Health and Safety
• Support the Age Group Leader to ensure that Health & Safety policies are fully implemented within the age group. In particular, ensure the required standards of cleanliness and hygiene are achieved, risk assessments are in place, the environments and equipment are appropriately maintained and that best practice is communicated and promoted throughout
the nursery school.
• Participate in the development of risk assessments where relevant, ensuring that all activities are adequately assessed.

Commercial responsibilities
• Support the Age Group Leader to present a strong environment to maximise occupancy and meet occupancy targets. In particular, actively seek out opportunities to promote the
nursery school. In particular;
Ensure that the age group is prepared in order to demonstrate outstanding daily practice and routines

Attend promotional events
Actively review new starter dates and settling in sessions to enable a smooth
transition from home to Dreamcatcher Childcare
Ensure customer and staff retention is as high as possible
• Attend and participate in events to promote Dreamcatcher Childcare 
• Oversee the purchase and maintenance of the apparatus etc. to ensure that the nursery school is suitably equipped in line with the budget

Personal Training & Development
• Participate in arrangements for your own supervision, training and development
• Undertake any qualifications deemed necessary by the Nursery Manager and Deputy
Manager/Age Group Leader to fulfil the requirements of the post
Other Ad-hoc Duties
• To complete other duties as necessary to ensure the continued success of the nursery school
• Ensure that Nurseries ‘paperless mandate’ is met as much as possible.
