An exciting opportunity to join our Campus Operations team based on the beautiful Whiteknights campus. You will be supported to learn how to carry out reactive and planned maintenance on the university’s power and lighting systems. Kickstart your career by completing a Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship at Langley College.

We are seeking to appoint an Apprentice Maintenance Electrician to join the Campus Operations team, within Estates, who offer a reactive and planned maintenance service to University owned properties across all our campuses and sites.

You will be supported to learn how to carry out reactive and planned maintenance on the university’s power and lighting systems.  Carry out routine inspections and the planned maintenance schedules of the University’s emergency lighting, fire and lift systems.

You will report to the Reactive Maintenance Manager, Building Services, and will be supported by an apprenticeship mentor from the trade team. This role will likely be predominately based at the Whiteknights Campus, Reading, but you will have to travel to other campuses from time to time as part of the role.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • Technical: Take instructions from an experienced tradesman, Senior Tradesman or Supervisor/Manager in order to independently complete basic technical electrical tasks.
  • Health & Safety: To be proactive in maintaining, supporting & promoting a secure and safe working environment for all customers, staff, and visitors.
  • Customer Support: Maintain regular contact with customers and stakeholders to ensure that the services provided meet their needs & expectations affecting them in a timely manner.


You will work towards the Installation & Maintenance Electrician (Level 3) Apprenticeship run by Windsor Forest Colleges Group, based at Langley College, a short walk from Langley train station. The apprenticeship is taught at college 1 day/week during term time. Travel expenses will be paid to attend college in Langley.
