Carpentry Apprentice Wins SkillBuild Regional Heat

Lewis, an Apprentice with Elm Carpentry, has won the CITB SkillBuild 2017 Regional Heat for Carpentry!

Lewis’ heat took place at City College Southampton last week, though we’ll have to wait until June to find out if Lewis’ scores will be high enough to take him through to the National SkillBuild Final, which will be held in Birmingham’s NEC Arena.

Lewis spends one day a week learning at Aldershot Construction College as part of his Carpentry Apprenticeship with us. His Carpentry Lecturer, Lee Dunne, said “Lewis is very knowledgeable – his balance of college and site work is in perfect harmony. He brings great experience and still has the hunger to learn more.

“He’s excelled at all practical and theory tasks, and has a very keen eye for detail. He’s a great role model for future apprentices and a great example of the quality and standard the building industry needs.”

A shot of Lewis in action!

The SkillBuild competition is organised by CITB and has been running for more than 45 years. It aims see the very best in construction talent compete against each other to be crowned SkillBuild winner in their chosen craft occupation.

Well done Lewis, and good luck!
