Caterers Conquer the Three Peaks Challenge

Our catering students left the kitchen this summer in search of a brand new challenge…

Students and college staff completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing to the summit of the Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon mountains.

Climbing one mountain per day, students Ashley, Ben, Gabriella, Isabelle, Jay, Leon, Scott, Taylor, and Xander completed the challenge alongside Programme Manager for Hospitality and Catering Gwen Grace, Chef Lecturer Sean Patterson and Learner Services Officer Roxy Mills.

Here are the group at the summit of each mountain:

The challenge raised £1211 for the department through sponsorship, which will allow them to enter more catering competitions throughout the year.

Programme Manager for Hospitality and Catering Gwen Grace said:

“Climbing the mountains one after the other requires serious determination. This truly was a challenge for our participating students, and I am delighted to say that they all completed this challenge in our department’s characteristic ‘can do’ style. Completing all three mountains is an outstanding achievement and demonstrates what they can achieve if they set their minds to it. I would like to thank all the participating students for their commitment, and their families and staff who have gone the extra mile to support this trip!”

Chef Lecturer Sean Patterson commented:

“This was an excellent opportunity to take the students out of the kitchen and experience outdoor learning. This challenge provides a platform that students can discuss in future interviews for how they have overcome a challenge. It was very much enjoyed and I am proud of all my students for this achievement.”
