Students on our Access to Higher Education courses attended an award ceremony to celebrate the end of their studies.

Each year, many of our Access to Higher Education students progress to higher education courses at a range of institutions. We caught up with a few of our recent Access graduates to find out how they found the course and what they’re going on to do next.

Beth

Studied: Access to Humanities
Now: Going to study Law at Cambridge University

“Now that the course has finished, I will be attending Cambridge University in the autumn to study law. I enjoyed learning new approaches to thought provoking subjects, whilst being encouraged to be analytical and curious in my studies. The course helped me progress through its teaching staff who encouraged me to believe in myself and reach for goals I had previously thought unattainable.”

Kate

Studied: Access to Engineering
Now: Going to study Civil Engineering at the University of Strathclyde

“Having finished the course, I’m now completing a STEM Summer School in Mathematics at the University of Strathclyde, where I will start my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Completing the course raised my confidence, and my mind is now set on becoming a fully qualified Chartered Civil Engineer within the next 5 years. It not only gave me the grades to gain entry into my number one university, it prepared me for studying at a higher level.”

Anisa

Studied: Access to Sciences
Now: Going to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Surrey

“The access course has enabled me to gain a broad range of academic skills through various subject based assignments, research projects, presentations and examinations. I feel more prepared for higher education as I have met new people and teachers who have enabled me to develop social skills such as teamwork and communication which are crucial in academic studies. Having completed the course, I am now hoping to fulfil my ambition to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Surrey. “

Rees

Studied: Access to Sciences
Now: Going to study Criminology and Forensic Studies at the University of Portsmouth

“I enjoyed meeting new people that had similar experiences than me and wanted to go into the same career path as me. Now that the course has finished, I’m preparing for higher education and studying Criminology and Forensic Studies at the University of Portsmouth. It’s helped me get an idea of how the world of science works and how I can get to where I need to be in the fastest possible way.”
