Farnborough Lecturer to spend her summer teaching in China

Our Biology Lecturer, Shelini Surendran will be heading to China this summer for a unique experience.

Shelini will spend her summer holidays teaching Biology to undergraduates at Henan University of Technology in Henan Province before embarking on a trip of a lifetime around China.

Shelini, who is also currently doing a PhD in Nutrigenetics at Reading University, was approached because of her existing teaching experience at the college. She said: “I will be travelling to China on July 9 and will be teaching undergraduates for six hours a day.

“I don’t think all the students will be totally proficient in English so it could be a challenge! It’s an amazing opportunity to experience teaching in such a different part of the world and I can’t wait to get started.”

Shelini will also spent a fortnight visiting attractions including The Great Wall near Beijing, the Terracotta Army in Xi-an, and the Panda Sanctuary in Chengdu.

She said: “It’s going to be quite an intense summer but one that will be an absolutely unique experience. I am very grateful to have such a great opportunity and I will learn so much to bring back to my students in Farnborough.”
