Floristry Student Wins Bronze In Local Competition

Floristry student, Anne Stewardson, from Aldershot, has won Bronze in the Candleglow category of The Aldershot Floral Design Club’s Annual Christmas Show 2017!

The competition ran from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd December 2017, and Anne, who’s studying our Intensive Floristry Course, was among over 100 entrants who took part in the competition.

The Candleglow category, which is for entrants who had not received an award for their floral displays before, required Anne to incorporate candles into her design.

Anne said: “I started the Intensive Floristry course in September after attending one of the college’s half day floristry workshops. The course has been incredible at boosting my confidence, and this year I decided to enter the competition.

“I wanted to make something which was dark at the bottom, and lighter at the top, where the candle would sit. We spent four hours on Friday getting the display ready, and were allowed to come in on Saturday morning to make sure everything was okay, before the displays were judged and awards given out on the Sunday.

“All I can say is a huge thank you to my teacher, Vicky, who encouraged me. I went in to the competition thinking of something she’d said to me – ‘someone’s got to win’, which was a very positive attitude.”

Floristry Lecturer, Vicky Hutton, said: “I am very proud of Anne, it was her first competition and she did brilliantly. I hope that she’ll continue to enter floristry competitions to show off her skills.”

Applications are still open to study a Floristry course with us this September. We also offer one day Floristry workshops throughout the year.
