Major Aviation Apprenticeships Announced

Farnborough College of Technology will be working in partnership with world-class aviation companies Airbus, Gulfstream and TAG Aviation to provide apprenticeships from 2019.

The news is expected to create a lot of excitement among students this March, when the College will also be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (4-8 March). The new vacancies of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer will lead to apprentices carrying out various tasks on aircraft at Farnborough Airport, in what is considered to be a highly skilled and respected role.

Taught over three years in total, the apprenticeship’s first year is college-based to teach the core skills needed to work in the aviation environment, before studying one day per week at college and working for four days.

Darren Smith, Training Manager at Airbus, said:

“We are especially pleased to be working with Farnborough College of Technology on these new apprenticeships. We expect it will be a great local partnership that enables Airbus to continue creating a skilled and talented team, maintaining aircraft to the highest standards.”

Principal CEO of Farnborough College of Technology, Virginia Barrett, said:

“Aviation is very much at the heart of Farnborough and the surrounding area. It gives me great joy to know we will be playing a role in supporting the growth of both local and international industry with these new apprenticeships. We expect there to be lots of interest in these roles and would encourage anyone with a passion for engineering or aviation to apply for this fantastic opportunity.”

Apprenticeships are available to anyone over the age of 16 and often appeal to those over 19 looking to train in a new career.
