Media Graduate shortlisted for Film Festival

Katie Little, recent media graduate, had her shot film ‘A Draft of Kings’ selected and shortlisted for a national short film competition.

‘Eat Our Shorts’ is a prestigious student competition selecting films from the biggest film schools and universities. Katie had just completed her BA Hons Media Production when film lecturer, Alessandro Repetti, recognised the quality of Katie’s film and entered it into the competition.

The film, ‘A Draft of Kings’, was selected for the screening that took place in December at the British Film Institute in London.

Katie’s film was received with a great audience reaction to the comedic notes of the production.

The film involves medieval King William and his rival, Godfrey, who are caught in a fight when it’s revealed that their characters are being actively written by two teenagers. The teenagers fight over the direction of the story, changing the plot and style, as the fictional world changes with each new sentence. As the fictional characters decide to write their own story, the teenagers shut down the laptop, to demonstrate the closing of a door in their lives.

Katie said, “Being surrounded by the talent and imaginations of other aspiring filmmakers was truly an experience to be a part of, and I was grateful for the opportunity to share my own piece with those as passionate as myself.”

Head of Higher Education at Farnborough, Larry Magee, also attended the screening and said: “Katie’s film was exciting and innovative in its style and production, it thoroughly deserved to be selected, it is a real tribute to the Media team, particularly as Katie was a college student before staying on to take her degree.”

Principal CEO Virginia Barrett commented: “Katie’s hard work and dedication has led her to be able to showcase her incredible work in an event that reflect her abilities. Her work truly shows what she is capable of, and we look forward to seeing her future work.”

Katie, who attended Fernhill school before starting at University Centre Farnborough in 2017 received a First-Class Honours degree in Media Production. She graduated in October 2022 at Guildford Cathedral where she also received the ‘Best Director’ award.
