Media students work on World Darts Championships

It was a ‘bulls eye’ for two current Media Production Degree students and a former graduate from Farnborough College of Technology. The three secured placements to work on the World Professional Darts Championships at Lakeside in Frimley Green. Former student Chris Philpot and current students Jessica Eade of Frimley and Jessica Sibthorpe of Tonbridge worked as Production Assistants gaining invaluable experience in a Live TV environment. The current students are in their second year of a BSc (Hons) Media Production degree were given on screen credits at the end of the live shows.

Jessica Sibthorpe said ‘It was fantastic experience and we made some great contacts, many of the team had been to Brazil for the World Cup and were going on to work on the world Snooker Championships so we’re hoping to be able to get further work in the future”

The college has built up a relationship with the company that produces the coverage for the BBC, they need reliable and able students to take on production assistant roles. This was the seventh year in succession that Farnborough College of Technology students have worked on the Championships and many have gone on to be offered work on high profile events such as Wimbledon, Match of the Day and Sky’s Premiership coverage.

Head of Media and Creative Arts at the College, Lawrence Magee, said, ‘This is excellent experience and is the sort of thing that makes FCOT’s Media Production degree stand out from other Universities, this year we have had students doing work experience at many media companies, invaluable experience making our students stand out in the job market’.
