Minibus Donation Brings Pride to Students

Students from our Foundation and Entry Level department are benefiting from the donation of a minibus, funded by registered charity Lions Clubs International and parents of students at the College.

Our Foundation and Entry Level department offers courses to those with additional learning needs, learning difficulties and/or disabilities. These courses involve regular trips into the local community to encourage students to develop independence and employability skills.

The project to acquire a minibus was initiated by Debbie, a parent of a student completing a Foundation course with us, who recognised that a dedicated vehicle would benefit the department. She contacted Farnborough Lions Club for their support while also helping to raise funds towards the vehicle. Lions Clubs in Aldershot, Farnborough, Fleet, Yateley, Hart, Hook and Odiham came together to donate funds raised through their attendance at community events.

Programme Manager for the department, Liz Wilson, commented: “The curriculum in Foundation Learning is structured around preparing young people for adulthood. It has been great working with the Lions and having the minibus will make a big difference to the students.”

Ray Bentley, outgoing president of the Farnborough Lions Club, commented: “We hold fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for local causes, one of which we were asked to help towards the costs of a minibus for the College’s Foundation department. We contacted other local Lions Clubs who were only too pleased to help with the fundraising. We hope the students enjoy their freedom and have some fun days out.”
