Mock Election Results for College Students

This week our Student Services Team held a cross-college Mock Election to demonstrate the electoral process to students and remind them of their democratic rights.

Following discussion of each political party’s manifestos in students’ tutorial classes, we asked our students to cast their votes for the party that they would elect.

A total of 822 student votes were counted and it was clear that one party stood out as favourite:

Labour 50.00%
Conservative 22.02%
UKIP 11.07%
Green 9.12%
Lib Dems 7.79%

We are pleased that our students have engaged and got involved in this process and are eager to see how these results compare with the results in today’s General Election.

Student Services Manager, Debbie Stephenson, commented “We feel it’s important that students understand the value of democracy and the importance of using their voice in decisions about their future. This mock process helps them to understand their role as participating citizens in our society.”
